Toolscase AskFiles AI ("we," "us," or "our") is a browser extension designed to let users upload PDF, CSV, and Excel documents and ask natural language questions using AI. This Privacy Policy describes the minimal scopes of data processed by this tool and our data privacy commitments.
Data We Process and Collect
To deliver accurate AI responses, summaries, and citations, AskFiles AI processes these items:
Document Content & Query Data
When you upload a PDF, CSV, or Excel file and send questions, your file content and query text are processed ephemerally over encrypted HTTPS pipelines solely to return AI answers and citations. We do not store your raw file contents permanently on our servers or use uploaded files to train public AI models.
Local Session History & Options
Session history, file names, prompt histories, and extension settings are saved locally inside your browser storage (chrome.storage.local). This data stays on your device and is not sold or synchronized with external third-party advertisers.
Privacy Integrity Promise
Your uploaded documents, spreadsheets, and chat queries are never sold, rented, or used to train public AI models. We process data strictly to deliver immediate user answers in transit.
Extension Permissions Usage
The AskFiles AI extension requests the following permission levels to execute operations:
storage
Required to persist your chat history, prompt templates, and extension settings locally on your device. This data never leaves your browser.
contextMenus
Enables right-click context menu shortcuts on PDF, CSV, and Excel file links in the browser so you can instantly open them in AskFiles AI.
activeTab
Allows AskFiles AI to interact with your currently active tab when you use context menu shortcuts on supported file links.
host_permissions (*.pdf, *.csv, *.xlsx, *.xls)
Required so AskFiles AI context menu can detect and open PDF, CSV, and Excel file links you right-click on any website — limited strictly to those file types only.
